From word choice to tenses, writing in English can be challenging (and downright confusing) at times. Smart tools such as Grammarly can be infinitely helpful in your writing. Dig a little deeper and you’ll find ways to hone your writing skills in the app too.
Here’s how you can pick up a turn of phrase or two, even as you write a caption for your social post.
Choose the right version of English
How you write depends greatly on who you’re writing for. To cater to a specific audience, go to Account > Language Preference and choose from styles such as American English, Australian English, British English, Canadian English and Indian English.
Rate your writing
For an evaluation of how well you’re writing according to Grammarly, tap the three dots in the top right corner of the screen. Tap Performance to see your score out of 100, and tap Readability to learn how likely it is for college-educated readers to understanding your writing.

Check your tone
Want to make sure you’ve struck the right tone in your light-hearted email or all-important dissertation? Type with your Grammarly keyboard until you’ve reached 90 characters, then tap the emoji or G icon in the keyboard’s upper left corner to make sure you’re not being unintentionally sarcastic.
Create your own dictionary
Don’t want Grammarly to autocorrect those unique names or specialised terms you use all the time? Add them to your personal Grammarly dictionary. Go to Account > Manage Personal Dictionary, then tap the plus sign to add those frequently used words one by one.

Know your habits
Grammarly’s Insights feature goes over your writing and tells you weekly feedback on statistics such as how many unique words you use and how accurate your compositions are. Go deeper to view your achievements under different design badges as well.
