Help’s just a slay away in Minion Rumble’s fierce fantasy battles – defeat a foe and a cute ally appears by your side. Eventually you’ll assemble a full squad of followers, including charming champions such as a giant hamster that spits sunflower seeds at skeletons. Choose powerful skills mid-fight (maybe pillars of light that blast foes from above?) and rumble your way to victory.

What we love: The Wheel of Fate power-up. Grabbing this special treasure unleashes awesome (and sometimes hilarious) effects. Our fave? The ally-enlarging Titan Form. Kaiju-size capybaras to the rescue!

Quick tip: Dispatching enemies replenishes your supply of minions, but sometimes you’ll lose the wee lads faster than you can generate new ones. One solution is to choose skills such as Mutation and Eternal Youth – they’ll extend the lifespan of your tiny buddies outside of combat.

Meet the creator: Seoul-based game studio Funflow is best known for dark RPGs such as Heir of Light and The Walking Dead: All-Stars. Originally, your troops in Minion Rumble were going to be skeletons, but when the game’s art director suggested making them cuddly blobs, the team loved the all-ages-friendly idea.
