LIMITED-TIME EVENT

See the Lyrid meteors with Night Sky

Follow this month’s special, celestial event.

This month, the Lyrid meteor shower will dazzle the dark skies once more. It’s time to head outside, glance up and catch the magical moment with the Night Sky app.

Quick take: The Lyrid meteor shower was first observed 2,700 years ago, making it one of the oldest recorded meteor showers in history. Known for its fast, bright meteors, it occurs once a year when Earth passes through debris left by Comet Thatcher on its orbit around the sun. From 16–25 April, with the peak activity expected around 22 April, use Night Sky to locate the blue-white star Vega, then find somewhere dark and watch the shooting stars. You could see up to 20 per hour!

Don’t miss: Your love for stargazing doesn’t have to end when the shower does. In Night Sky, you can also follow other upcoming astronomical events, including the Eta Aquariid meteors, the blue moon or the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter.
