APPS WE LOVE

Rediscover Your Albums

Longplay gives you a fresh perspective on your music library.

Longplay is a beautiful music app that celebrates the album. Whether you listen to Apple Music or local audio files, the app displays your collection as a gorgeous grid of cover artwork—and encourages you to play the complete albums.

What we love: Unlike many music services, Longplay focuses on albums, letting you browse album art with whimsical filtering options (like sorting covers by Brightness). It’s a fun way to find forgotten gems. Can’t decide what to listen to? Play a random album by clicking the dice button. For a truly old-school listening experience, turn on Purity mode (Settings > Playback) to prevent skipping tracks.

Sort your albums by Negligence to bubble up albums you haven’t listened to recently; set the album-cover size to Stars to make your top-rated albums larger.

Quick tip: Create collections of albums (in the sidebar) by dragging and dropping—or save searches as Smart Collections that update as your library grows.

Check the Album Inspector (Album > Info) to see an album’s tracks, stats, and metrics.

Pro tip: If you have the Claude desktop app installed, enable Longplay’s Claude AI integration (Settings > Integrations) to generate collections using natural-language prompts. Or create macOS shortcuts that let you play, for example, the newest or highest-rated albums in your collection right from Spotlight.

Meet the creator: Developer Adrian Schönig is CTO of a company that makes urban-transport apps. Longplay is a personal project that grew out of his love for music and a family tradition of sharing favorite albums with his children.
