Travel Tips From an F1® Pit Crew

The apps that help team members make the most of constant travel.

Formula 1® runs on precision—especially for the men and women behind the pit wall, who spend 200 days a year traveling from continent to continent.

We spoke to three Formula 1 team members about the apps that fuel their success on the road: Aston Martin performance coach Henry Howe, Audi head of race strategy Rithvik Dhananjay Reddy, and Haas coach Faith Atack-Martin.

Beat jet lag

To optimize sleep cycles after long-haul flights, Atack-Martin relies on Timeshifter. She’ll enter each crew member’s flight details and working hours and have the app build tailored sleep schedules that keep the team synchronized. “Timeshifter is essential for creating team-wide plans,” she says.

Wrangle itineraries

Atack-Martin uses Flighty to keep her travel schedule under control. The app’s data-driven intel makes flying much smoother. “It tracks my flights, notifies me of delays, and keeps me generally organized,” she says.

Make the most of your time off

Howe has been using ChatGPT to create hyperefficient city plans. “I used it during a day in Istanbul,” he says. “I gave it my constraints—gym at 9 a.m., hotel checkout at noon, specific neighborhoods, a deadline for my taxi to the airport—and it generated a full itinerary with food stops and locations.”

Keep fit on the go

When he lands in a new country (which happens pretty much every other week), Reddy’s first priority is mapping the terrain. “Strava is by far my most used app,” he says, noting it helps him plan cycling routes, explore paths popular with other riders, and view photos fellow bikers have posted. Howe is also a fan: “As a bonus, it usually helps me discover great coffee stops along the way,” he says.

Stay centered

To stay mentally sharp, Howe turns to Headspace, which has a huge library of guided meditations to suit just about every situation. “I’m not strictly religious with the practice, but I enjoy mindfulness meditation,” he says.

Find great restaurants

“TikTok is a brilliant tool for this,” Howe says. “It functions like a visual search engine. If you search for a specific city, you get these very authentic, short-form reviews that show you exactly what the food and the atmosphere are like. It can be more helpful than text-based reviews because you get a real sense of the place.”
