3 Ways to Sleep Better With BetterSleep

Soundscapes, smart alarms, and more tools for slumbering soundly.

Loaded with practical tools and personalized insights, BetterSleep aims to put your sleep woes to bed. Here are three ways it can help you feel renewed and recharged come morning.

The app’s sleep-tracking feature records audio while you snooze, and it can even categorize external sounds, like crying babies and traffic, that might be affecting your rest.

1. Be a sleep sleuth

BetterSleep’s tracker can offer serious insight into what’s happening while you slumber. When you go to bed, place your iPhone or iPad nearby, then tap the app’s Sleep button. The app will record sounds you make—like snoring or talking—and use that to estimate when you hit various sleep cycles throughout the night.

Don’t miss: Setting a Smart Alarm on the Sleep tab. Just pick a wake window between 15 and 60 minutes, and BetterSleep will rouse you when you’re in your lightest sleep phase.

Blend nature sounds, relaxing music, and brainwave pulses at various frequencies, which are believed to enhance relaxation, focus, and more.

2. Create the perfect soundscape

BetterSleep offers a range of ready-made soundscapes to drift off to, like Campfire Rain, in which a fire crackles as raindrops fall gently on a tent. You can adjust the volume of each sound—or replace it with birdsong, a purring cat, or a range of ASMR recordings.

Don’t miss: If you’re looking for a more dynamic soundscape, turn on Smart Mix, which subtly fades each sound in and out. To activate the effect, tap the lightning bolt icon next to a sound when you’re editing a mix.

Early-rising chickadee, late-night owl, or something in between? BetterSleep helps you figure out your sleep profile.

3. Discover your chronotype

Early risers have different needs than night owls—and each has an ideal time to fall asleep and wake up. Answer a few questions (like “What time would you wake up if you had no obligations during the day?”) and BetterSleep will reveal your ideal bedtime and wake-up time.

Don’t miss: Using that insight to set your bedtime goals. On your profile page, choose a bedtime to get a gentle reminder to start winding down.
