The Ripley clan could do with a break, couldn’t they? Fifteen years after Ellen Ripley was stuck on a spaceship with a xenomorph in Alien, her daughter Amanda finds herself in a similar pickle in survival horror game Alien: Isolation.

This super-deluxe App Store edition of the PC and console classic comes with all seven servings of DLC that followed its original release – so it’s quite a package.

What we love: The setting and atmosphere onboard troubled space port Sevastopol. It’s all beautifully realised, with countless little details inspired by the original film. Crawling through vents, eking out the last of your torch’s batteries and crafting makeshift weapons while you find a way out is tense, rewarding and unpredictable.

Quick tip: This one is best played with headphones. Often you’ll hear the alien approaching before you see it, so listen carefully and always take a mental note of hiding spots as you explore – you never know when you might need to take refuge.

Meet the creator: UK–based, Sega–owned studio Creative Assembly made its name with the Total War strategy games before moving into survival horror with Alien: Isolation. This edition of the game was handled by Feral Interactive, a specialist in bringing high-end PC and console games over to the App Store.
