I use this app all the time. I’ve looked at some reviews complaining that sometimes shops don’t have their food or that they don’t get what they ordered. While these are valid points, they are not the usual experience. I ordered hundreds of bags over a year, only twice I got to a place that was closed, 2-3 times the shop didn’t have the bag (it was a mistake in the system) and maybe another 2-3 times the bag was cancelled before I collected it or the collection time has changed. In terms of being satisfied with what you are going to get, as long as you don’t have any allergies and you are not picky about your food, you can follow the ratings system. If you are picky, you can still use it, but buy only from vendors that always give you the same thing. E.g. most sushi places will give you sushi, Starbucks split their food and cakes into separate offerings etc. If I could wish for one feature, it would be the ability to order my lists (including favourites) by start and end time of collection. I know I can filter on it, but sometimes I would like to quickly see what I can get now vs. what I can get if I wait a bit. It might not be important for a casual user, but when someone schedules their lunches based on TGTG, it is handy.
DESPERATELY needs a button to zero in on your location

I love this service! However, it DESPERATELY needs a button to zero in on your location!!! Every single time I open the app, I have to tap Browse, then zoom like 4 times and move the map around just to see if the bag at the end of my block is still available. I do this multiple times a day because I don’t know at 10am if I’ll still be around my house at 8pm. I really prefer to use the map view and would absolutely love an option to start on the map view zeroed in on my current location. I don’t need to see the entire Bronx and even New Jersey every time I open the app. I live in Brooklyn for Pete’s sake. Also, stop pushing the auto update feature on restaurant owners. It makes their business always say bags are available tomorrow even though they may not be. I think it hurts the dependability of your service. Many owners don’t understand what it does and it winds up saying that all of these restaurants have leftover bags available when they do not actually have it. I feel like it should say there is nothing available until the store owner physically goes in there and updates it to say there is something. I’ve helped one of my local spots figure out what was going wrong and why it always said he had two bags available when he did not. This auto update feature makes me feel like I cannot reserve a bag in advance and I must show up first to see if something is actually available. Kind of defeats the purpose of the entire reservation process. Thanks for reading!

Good, But App Could Be Improved
Metter98
This is a great service that helps to fight food waste. It’s also a nice way to discover businesses in your area that you might not have known about and sample their offerings. However, the app itself could use some improvement. One issue is that there are some points in the day when the data in the app fail to load and you are stuck at looking at the animated Too Good To Go logo in a white box - sometimes this occurs in the middle of the night but I have also seen it take place during the middle of the day. I hope this never happens to me when I’m going to pick up an order and need to show it to someone in a store and swipe in the app to collect.Another issue is that the distances shown in the map are straight line (or “as the crow flies”) and don’t take into account the street grid or bodies of water such as rivers. While this approach might work fine for some areas it isn’t best suited for a dense urban environment where there are numerous businesses. Even when I have the filter set to the minimum 1 mile distance I see locations that are actually much further away because they would first require walking to a subway station or to a ferry landing to cross a river. I have found that it’s easier to judge distances by looking at the “Map” view instead of the “List” view under the “Browse” option, but there is no “Map” view available under your “Favorites”.
Great concept but execution could be much better

I have only used this service once as a result of it being poorly executed. I arrived at the restaurant at the start of the pick up time. They didn’t have my order. They had no food remaining and were dismissive. I biked 2 miles to get it so it was a huge waste of time and effort. Not only did Too good To Go customer service not provide me with compensation / discount for a future order but I had to wait more than a week for the refund. The app is also not that great. I don’t have an issue with the distance shown being a straight line like others have noted - that’s what Google maps is for! My problem is lack of selection - only the same 3-5 places show up within 2 mile radius and I’m in a dense area just a few blocks away from a very big and famous university with tons of restaurants in the area. The description of what might be offered is often very vague and we have no idea why places get the score they do. I understand we shouldn’t rate places like Google or Yelp as these establishments are doing us a favor but it helps to know if my bag is going to have boba tea or a sandwich? Is it going to be a meal or dessert / pastries? Will it have meat? I just called up a pasta joint that always shows up in the app. I thought I’d be getting cooked ravioli but was told it’s uncooked bits of fresh pasta. That type of info would be useful to have in the app.
Thank you for helping reduce food waste together with millions of other people like you! In this app release, we’ve fixed some bugs to improve app stability and performance. We hope you’ll enjoy the update!
