While this app is without doubt, inferior to Encore as far as recognition goes, it does have some redeeming qualities, one of which is playlists. Head to head with Encore, this app is bested by Encore on virtually every other feature. Encore has better recognition, faster, and considerably fewer dropped connections. But the playlists option is Soundhounds redemption in that you can load up your playlist, pop on your headphones, and listen to full songs, full playlist. One other perk Encore doesn’t have is the ability to search for songs manually and add to your playlist.

App works fine for a little while, but then works not at all. Constant searches with unfounded results. Have had this app for years, but only works part of the time and then just sits on my phone not being used. Whoever, whatever, or how ever this app needs to be improved needs to be done, never produces search results, always shows no results found and that’s with songs from the radio with clear sound. ~Not a happy user~
Very Good App With One Very Dumb Flaw
JohnFGravnicek
I love this app, and I use it all the time. It's very good at identifying music even in kind of noisy environments, and while there are some features that I don't find to be necessarily relevant to me, I can easily ignore them. The one flaw (and it's minor but so dumb) is that you have to chase the app icon with an extra tap to get it to start "listening" when you first open the program. For example, you open the app, the logo appears at the top of the screen and then slides down to the center, you tap the logo, the logo jumps immediately to the top of the screen, then you tap the logo again to get it to drop smoothly to the bottom of he screen and start "listening." Once you've done this process once, everything works great, and the app icon slides between the top and bottom of the screen exactly as it should. When you open it again for a new session, however, the weird extra-tap chasing has to happen again. Why would they have the logo drift down to the center in the first place? Just keep it at the top, at the ready, at the very beginning!I keep hoping the new updates will correct this (my memory is that this problem was introduced by an update last year), but no luck yet. Also, if you're an impressionable young person, and you're a little unsure of what's cool and what's not, saying "OK, Hound, what song is playing?" is definitely something you should only do in the privacy of your own home.
SOUNDHOUND vs SHAZAM
ladedaniels
SHAZAM - I honestly don't CARE what the "trending shazams" were from all over the world, in every conceivable genre, over the last however-many days - I WANTED YOU TO IDENTIFY THAT SONG THAT WAS JUST PLAYING!!! But you almost always blow it, because first you have to load a million pages of useless crap that I don't care about before you'll even take a stab at my song! SOUNDHOUND - You couldn't ID two pretty popular songs based upon the lyrics "So wake me up when it's all over, when I'm wiser and I'm older" OR even "I'm just a little bit caught in the middle" when I typed them in. Oh, I got LISTS from SOUNDHOUND - based on song titles, lyrics, and album names - but not one of those lists had the actual songs that I was looking for on them. SOUNDHOUND does a somewhat better job with songs being played in movies, TV shows, and commercials - whereas SHAZAM will chug and chug (until the song is over with), then hand you the name of the movie or show that you're already fully aware you are watching - along with a big, crappy rendition of the movie poster - as if it were a gift. I even wrote to SHAZAM about it, and I received a very timely response saying that it "shouldn't do that" - apparently, it should have given me a list of songs. Well, I agree - but it never does. The lyrics that both offer are good, and show up fast, provided that either app bothered to ID your song in the first place. Is there a THIRD option out there for song identification?
Some of our favorite songs are:
“Bug a Boo” - Destiny’s Child
“Bugs” - Pearl Jam
“June Bug” - Melvins
“Stink Bug” - Beastie Boys
“Lovebug” - Jonas Brothers
Our least favorite things are bugs. We got rid of some and made additional improvements.
