My review is mostly about comments of other reviewers have made and a couple suggestions my own.Many have said the AI cheats. I think that depends on what level you are playing on. I don’t believe the AI cheats on easy level. I am definitely no great strategist and have won most of my game on easy. Medium level is a different story. I would think I would win about half the time on medium but have lost most of the time. Medium level should be made more realistic to beat. I haven’t tried hard level. Several people have said they would prefer the single shot salvo method like the original game. I would agree with that. Especially on the classic version it would be nice to have the option to play like the original game. A few people have talked about changing your user name. The only way I have found how to do this is to join Facebook. When I did this it imported my Facebook profile picture and first and last name. I don’t know if other people can see just my first name or full name so I removed off of Facebook. It would be nice to change your user name without joining Facebook. Many people have talked about when you play on line whether you’re playing another person or the AI. My experience is it’s easy to know which is which. When you play against a person there is always a count down from a few seconds to zero. Also the AI always makes a quick move while people often take time to consider there next move. I would like to see a leaderboard added so people can see how they rate against others. Each game we are awarded points. Also we are working toward completing more missions. It would be nice to have a leaderboard ranking one of two ways, either total points or total missions completed.

I’ve really been enjoying this version of the game. For quick fun, this game has almost bested 8-ball pool for me. I love the various power-ups, which both make for quicker games, as well as for some additional skill. What makes it even better, though, is when playing an online opponent who chooses a different commander than you do, as you each then have your own “special powers”. With all that being said, there are 3 annoyances I’ve noticed: the first was already mentioned, that you sometimes end up waiting forever for your opponent to finalize the game with no way of getting out. I’ve noticed a timer built in to the section where you get to place your ships. If this same timer was used in the waiting for opponent section, that would be cool. The other thing I noticed is the map Mounsell Forts. This map is screwed up. There are areas of the map which fall outside the playing grid. This makes it impossible to take shots in certain areas of the map. I lost 2 games on this map before I figured out what was going on. The last item was also mentioned before. I want to see where my opponent’s ships were hidden at the end of a game if I lose. Sometimes it can be a very close game. I WANT TO KNOW HOW CLOSE I CAME TO GETTING HIS/HER LAST SHIP BEFORE HE/SHE BEAT ME! Other than that, an incredible game which I will continue to play. Oh, and one other thing, what is the ranking system supposed to be able to do? The longer I play and win, the higher my rank goes, but to what effect? I hope this means some extra goodies tied to ranks are due in the next version?

My dad bought this app first so he could play with my kids and then told me about it answer me to download it. I never would have paid $4 for an app for which there are many free versions available. But since he already had it to play against my kids I had to buy it. I have never been so disappointed with an app, and cannot believe I paid $ for this. Every single game there comes a point in the game when the computer takes over and finishes the game for us. We know it’s happening because we FaceTime while we play and suddenly for one of us it shows we are waiting on the other player to take their turn but on the other person’s end they already took their turn and the computer took over and is playing against them while the first player waits around until the game shows it’s over or the computer takes over on their end too! I cannot explain how frustrating it is to explain to my kids every single game that the one they played was taken over or they finished the game against a computer because Grandpa’s end still shows he’s waiting for you to take a turn. It is so messed up. We waste hours sometimes because we will start a game again when we realize the computer too over. And I can only assume that’s what’s happening is that the computer took over - that or someone hacks into every game. Worst purchase ever.

I bought this app…yes, paid for it. All I really wanted is to play the classic game of Battleship against the computer. I did not want to sign into the Game Center to play other opponents…just something to keep myself occupied while glancing at the TV in the evenings. You only get to play a certain number of the classic games (something like 14) before you either go back and repeat them or spend more money ($2.99?) to move forward. That is kind of expensive per game. Also, you can tell that when the computer plays, it does not initially use logic when it plays - it makes pretty dumb plays. It doesn’t seem to know how big the ships are that it is seeking. And, it also seems that at a certain point, depending on how evenly ships are being sunk, the computer uses its inherent knowledge of the placement of your ships and will rapidly find and sink your ships. You can tell that the computer is not proceeding with a logical move, but somehow just knows where your ships are and sinks them. Not really that entertaining a game and you don’t get much for your money. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I haven’t found a way to wring out more “different” classic games.
