This game is surprisingly addicting to play for how simple the mechanics are. Three things I think that can improve gameplay:1. Remove the slow-motion when taking damage or make it less slow. It hinders the gameplay momentum.2. Make the final bubble room of every 2nd level the shop and all other bubble rooms weapons. I say this because although the world generation is random(which is great)I think the player pickups and shop should have some kind of structure that is predictable for the player. Something to “expect” keeps the player engaged by creating goals and milestones.3. Finally, I think there should be some kinda of overworld map that the player can see that indicated when levels will change themes or introduce new enemies. And possibly the ability to, “purchase with game currency”, skip ahead to levels previously visited. For example when jumping in the well have an option to jump to world 3 for a price. This would help players learn the new enemies quicker rather than spending a whole lot of time getting there and learning the hard way.Overall great game, and would play it daily!Ps. EVERYTHING in this game is determined by a random number generator… including you getting anywhere in it. At least, until you reach the Catacombs area where your game is GUARANTEED to end because there’s so much garbage flying at you that you have no chance of avoiding because it comes at you from every possible angle, and you can only shoot DOWN, leaving you completely defenseless. And it’s SCRIPTED to do this because it ALWAYS happens in the Catacombs. This game isn’t endless because that’s where the game forces itself to end, masking itself as an “avoidable” game over. Not helping any of that is the fact that your only option is playing in portrait mode with a control display that takes up half of the screen, and yeah you can turn the display off in the options but then you DON’T KNOW WHERE YOUR CONTROLS ARE. Not that it’d matter anyway since the amount of things flashing and flying across the screen at mach 20 makes it impossible to see what you’re doing at ANY point in the game, while also giving me some of the worst sensory overload i’ve ever dealt with in a game.I may not have wasted money on this since it’s free on AA, but I do strongly feel like i’ve wasted TIME that I would like to have back, and I feel that anyone reading this is better off spending their time with a game on AA that’s actually good, which Downwell is objectively not.

It’s fun to see what all the upgrades are and inside the new enemies and especially the different styles and color patterns. It’s just I love the stereo of you. You just be some random guy and you’ll just like you just look down a well and then with gun boots on and I thought it was funny but good game I like the game a little wonky if you haven’t seen it, but I have to say again I did write a essay on the game

I have no clue how they managed to do this but the Apple Arcade version of Downwell runs so badly that it’s nigh unplayable compared to the original version. It’s a one-time purchase without any micro transactions, so I don’t know what exactly makes this version special, but the one thing that DOES set it apart from the normal version is the aforementioned performance issues. I swear it’s like the game is running at 20fps the whole time whereas the normal version runs at a much higher framerate- either 60 or 120 (can’t tell if there’s promotion support or not just from eyeballing it). It’s a shame since this is such a good game, but please, just buy the normal version unless they fix this version.
