Compared to Revu for iPad, this is NOT an improvement

I have been a Bluebeam user for over a decade (Bluebeam eXtreme/Complete for Windows desktop, Revu for Mac (prior to end-of-life), and the BEST AEC PDF app ever invented - Revu for iPad (prior to end of life). Everyone in the industry knows that Bluebeam Revu for Windows desktop is the gold standard for the AEC industry as far as editing PDFs. Having been to the Bluebeam eXtreme Conference in 2015, 2016, and 2017 (LA, San Diego, and LA), I thought that Revu for iPad would be a great mobile tool for years to come. I even thought you’d incorporate some aspects of Project Atlas into the app (I’m from DFW & friends with the creators).I’m sure you know that not everyone likes or wants to or can utilize Studio to its fullest extent. Bluebeam Cloud is similar in this regard. It is a step DOWN from the Revu for iPad app. On the old Revu for iPad app I could do quick scaled measurements, have fluent viewing from markups created in Revu desktop, and it was the most used app I had on my iPad by far. After having paid for it, I assumed that it would continue to be serviceable for at least a few more years. Now I’ve got to (hopefully) retrain my teams, clients, and stakeholders in Bluebeam Cloud - which none of them like as much as they liked Revu for iPad. I can understand getting rid of Revu for Mac. It hurt, but I get it. However, iPads are the most common tablet on commercial jobsites hands down. So why kill it off? Why not keep it “as-is” for those of us that paid for it & used it with success for years?

Hi BuckeyeAM, I hear the frustration. Revu for iPad had some helpful features, but it also hit real limits: it wasn’t reliable enough for field conditions, the underlying tech couldn’t keep up with modern iPadOS, and the one-time $10 model wasn’t sustainable for continued improvements.Bluebeam Cloud was intended to be the replacement, but user feedback made it clear we needed to unify our systems first. Rolling out separate web and mobile systems that didn’t connect cleanly with Revu wasn’t the right path. That unification was a huge effort, and we had to take a couple steps back to do it.Measurements are rolling out later this month, Tool Sets are planned for later this year, and more advanced features will follow after that.If you prefer to keep using Revu for iPad, you may still be able to reinstall it if you previously downloaded it with the same Apple ID: App Store → profile icon → Apps (or Purchased) → Not on this iPad → search “Revu” → Download.And for clarity: we had to de-list Revu for iPad because it wasn’t right to keep selling an app built on technology that’s reached end-of-life, can’t be updated anymore, and Apple won’t allow further updates.

Bluebeam Cloud, used on a computer, is great. You can create projects, upload and share drawings, upload and share documents, create submittal logs, generate RFI’s, and create punch list items. However, when you upload items under the documents tab they aren’t accessible from the iOS app. It appears that the only functions available from the iOS app are the drawings, submittal log, and punch list. Adding a function to the iOS app to allow you to access the items uploaded under the documents tab would make this a much better app. I’m not sure why this is. You can use a browser on your iPad to log into the cloud and access the items under the documents tab but the markup features for the drawings, the RFI’s, and punch list all work better from the app. So your stuck using the browser half the time to access documents and using the app to generate markups on drawings, create RFI’s, and punch list items the other half of time. Hopefully they allow access to the documents through the app in a future roll out. It would change my rating for the app to 5 stars. Also, it would be nice to be able to attach/upload the actual submittal document to the corresponding entry in the submittal log so that it could be viewed from there. This app has potential but needs some work.

I used to use Revu for iPad and really liked it. However Bluebeam Cloud is virtually unusable for me. Trying to mark up or edit anything is extremely clunky and frustrating to the point that I’ve resorted back to using paper and marking up the pdf on my computer. Even selecting the markups is hard because the selection boundary is so far outside of the markup that you can’t select a markup right next to it even when zoomed in extremely close. I get that the idea is to be able to select stuff with fat fingers, but it’s ridiculous. I honestly haven’t found anything about this that’s an improvement. I’ve tried the using the Projects and Sessions and I’m unimpressed. I told my higher ups in the company that it was pointless to have it. The supers can use a pdf viewer because they’re not marking up anything anyways and the people that actually want to do markups don’t want to use it.If anybody has suggestions of an app that has capabilities similar to the Revu for iPad app, send them my way.

As a user of Bluebeam professionally for well over a decade in the AEC industry, I was excited for an updated app for better iPad implementation. This however is so difficult to use it feels like a high schooler coded it for a school project. Trying to use the Apple Pencil is unresponsive and often doesn’t produce a line and editing or moving prior text notes or callouts is extremely painful. If I had to redline a whole document set using this app, I would lose my mind. It would take me 10x the time to do vs the desktop app. How does a company the size of Revu release an app without basic functionality while ending the use of the previous app?Revu needs to beta test this with real Architects and roll out a complete app ASAP. You had 13+ years to be working on version 2.0, this is not acceptable. PS, I am not a complainer. In fact this is the first review on the App Store I have ever written. This app is THAT bad…

- Search Sessions and Projects by keyword Quickly find the Session or Project you have access to by typing in keywords, so you don’t have to scroll through long lists. - Sort your Sessions and Projects lists Organize your lists to get into the right work faster. - Access bookmarks in your PDFs If a PDF includes bookmarks, you can now open them from the editor and jump directly to the sections you need.
