  • Google tv remote

    Helpreviewman

I only use this app for a remote for my google tv. Works well but there is a constant bug. When I leave the app it seems to think the swipe to home means a movement on the remote. Which makes the remote go to the left corner every time either causing media controls to pop up or the media I’ve been playing to restart. Not aggravating just annoying. Otherwise the remote works well.

. I accidentally bought a TCL TV, I was in a hurry and didn’t notice it was a Google TV. OK my fault. But, you can’t use this TV as a regular TV without signing in with a Google account. Come on. Does this company really have to stick its fingers into every single part of our lives like this? And no, I can’t take the TV back , I’m setting it up in a short-term rental and it just had to get it installed and up and running. Now it’s too late. Now I have to through making new accounts and go through other extraordinary measures to hide my privacy from all the different people who will be staying at the place. And no, you can’t just sign out of your account because then it just resets the whole TV. Just disgusting and annoying. Whatever you do, do not buy a TV that says “Google TV“. All I wanted was a freaking TV.

  • Garbage Unreliable App

EDIT: The app actually isn't losing connection cause I see that it shows being connected to my google tv. Instead the app just arbitrarily decides that I don't need the remote as I'm actively using it and just causes it to disappear. I can't use the remote feature for more than 15 seconds without it disappearing on me and having cycle through disconnect and reconnect and force close and opening etc to get the remote back. Truly terrible app. Can't reliably do the one thing I need it to. I connect to my tv, then it drops connection as I'm using the remote. I then choose my tv to reconnect and it just loads forever. Getting a google tv had already proven to be a mistake, and the fact that their app can't even function properly as a remote, is just the cherry on top. Should have stuck with Roku. Learned my lesson. In fact, I would be using my Roku plugged into this tv except the tv also doesn't accept the Roku despite it working on other tvs.

  • Movie issue

I purchased the set of 3 John Wick movies. Towards the end of the second movie one of the following would occur: the sound would stop playing with picture only. The sound would continue but the picture would suddenly flip back to part of the beginning of the movie whileStill playing sound from where I just was. I would log off and reset my phone and go back in and it would pick up where it left off but then would do it again a few minutes later. I did 5 attempts before I finally got to see the end of the second movie. Now I’m watching the 3rd movie and it’s been fine all the way through until now the last 15 mins of movie it is doing the same exact thing. It’s very frustrating and at this point I’ve reset and still haven’t gotten to the end of the movie. If this was a rental I would really be angry (because I would be wasting my watch time before it could expire) and demand a refund. I hope I can see the end of this 3rd movie because I’ll want a partial refund if I can’t get it to work. DEVELOPERS.... you’ve got some technicalWork to fix here! ASAP!!Update: it seems many people have this same complaint. I’ve also tried watching additional movies since then and the same thing happens, at the end of the movie. So it’s basically ruining the end of each movie you purchase and watch. On you don’t care about this problem because I don’t see you addressing it with anyone, anywhere. I thought this would be a great place to create a movie library. I guess you won’t be getting any more of my money. You stink.

  • So difficult to use what I paid for

I paid for a rental. It was unwatchable because of how slow it would load. I don’t have cable or satellite and exclusively stream movies and shows through many platforms and almost never even have a glitch so my internet isn’t the problem. After spending 10 minutes of real time to just watch 2 minutes of the movie I moved on. I figured I would download it on my phone and then just plug my phone into the hdmi. Well it wouldn’t let me play it through the hdmi saying that it wasn’t supported. I get that they are probably trying to avoid large screenings of large movies but again it just was causing more difficulties. So then I went back to the hope that maybe resetting the internet and restarting the tv may help it load. But then it said that it had already been downloaded on another device so I would have to delete it off my phone before playing it. At this point I gave up for the fear of having to completely download it again after another potential failed attempt on the tv. I do understand that many of these problems come from a preventative measure to make sure people aren’t taking more than what they pay for. But at the end of the day I spent over a half hour trying to watch a movie that I paid to rent. I had the app on a phone and on a smart tv and was unable to watch it. I then went to another streaming service which then loaded right up and had no glitches so again it wasn’t my internet. The app loaded really fast when I put in my payment method but then when it came to receiving my product I was unable to get it. Eventually I did watch the movie the next day on my tiny phone screen but with so many options for renting movies out there, I will not be using this one again.

There are so many things wrong with this app(and Google products in general) that it boggles the mind. There are too many bizarre malfunctions to cover in a review, but I’ll name a few of my favorites. (1)You can’t scrub forward or back without encountering an endless spinning wheel in the middle of the screen that remains in place until you exit and reload. This has persisted for years. (2) Movies now default to audio voiceover mode for the visually impaired, and there’s no apparent way to disable this feature in the settings. So you just want to watch a movie like everyone else, and there’s suddenly a weird voice talking over the action. There’s a potential workaround to disable it, but it involves some strange nonsense about selecting the second duplicate “English” setting on the menu before exiting and reloading. (Makes zero sense, and just trying to explain what’s happening sounds bananas and is exhausting). (3) You can’t go back to the beginning of the movie. You just can’t. It freezes. You try again, and it freezes again. Finally, randomly, it works. You get the point, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
