Holes are usually empty space, but they take centre stage in this smart and inventive puzzler, a place where losing things is the name of the game.
What we love: You know how, in classic cartoons, a hole can often be moved around as if it’s a physical object? That’s the compelling premise behind Hole Stars. You navigate a black hole around each level, attempting to hoover up as many cakes, fruits, rubber ducks and other random objects as possible before your time runs out. Your hole expands as you grab more items, allowing you to claim bigger things – though some, like level-ending bombs, are best left alone. Choosing the right strategy is key to capturing each puzzle’s smorgasbord of stuff, with some handy boosters to help you out – including a shrink ray and a tornado that will suck nearby objects into your abyss.
Quick tip: It’s wise to prioritise the smaller objects first – there’s no point going after something that’s too big. And if you’re targeting a tower of, say, orange slices, try to get them over the centre of your hole to avoid them bouncing off the sides.
Meet the creator: Hole Stars adds to a successful roster of games from developer Moon Active, whose varied slate also includes Coin Master, Family Island and Travel Town.
