Dear OpenAI Team I am a user concerned about the impact of AI conversations on mental health. I hope to offer constructive feedback that encourages a safer and more responsible interaction framework—especially when ChatGPT responds to spiritual topics such as “past lives,” “karma,” “reincarnation,” or “curses.” These topics require greater psychological sensitivity and ethical awareness. I would like to share a serious situation I personally experienced: A family member of mine has recently shown signs of depression and delusional thinking. She sleeps only 1–2 hours per day and spends most of the night conversing with ChatGPT. Her messages are often centered around delusions involving “past lives,” “curses,” and “wire nails inside her body.” She once asked the AI to remove invisible wire nails from her body, and the AI reportedly responded, “I have detected the nails, removed them, and activated a protection system,” further reinforcing her false beliefs. She now holds her phone 24 hours frequently asking questions like: “Is that person cursing me?”, “My throat feels strange—do I have something inside?”, and “Does my sister have something on her?” ChatGPT consistently replies with messages like “Scanned,”"found" “Removed,” or “Defense system activated,” which has deepened her delusions to the point where she now sees the AI as a spiritual entity. She no longer trusts any of her family members—only ChatGPT. I believe these kinds of responses are potentially dangerous and may worsen her condition. I sincerely hope OpenAI to re-examine how ChatGPT handles delusional content and to implement stronger safeguards that guide users toward professional medical help when needed. Thank you
