APPS WE LOVE

Foster Sincere Connection

The text-based social network by and for queer people

Lex is an inclusive, equitable, and accessible space for LGBTQ+ people to discover true connection.

What we love: How Lex prioritizes personal written expression over looks. The only visual element is your profile photo—and even there, many users opt for a meme or alias to maintain a mystique. To meet others (and encourage meaningful interactions), you need to be creative with your words!

Connect with your local community by posting on the feed, or find groups that speak to your interests.

Quick tip: On the Group tab, explore conversations about specific topics, such as baking, sustainability, or comedy. Once you’ve been accepted to a group, you can view messages from other like-minded people and share your own.

Meet the creator: Kel Rakowski developed Lex after coming out later in life and struggling to find her community. “It’s important to be able to start a relationship based on a personality more than a photo,” she says. “Language is so important to the LGBTQ+ experience—words are almost a subculture within themselves.”
