GAMES WE LOVE

Life’s a lot to swallow

Wrestle with your self‑image in an insightful coming‑of‑age story.

It’s the final year of high school, and Jenny’s stress is at an all-time high. In the moving and relatable Consume Me – which won a 2026 Apple Design Award for Social Impact – make efficient use of your time to balance tasks such as homework and chores while keeping your mood high. You’re determined to meet unrealistic expectations, but when responsibilities start piling up and there aren’t enough hours in the day to do laundry, walk the dog and text your crush... well, something’s got to give.

What we love: The clever approach to sensitive subjects. As life gets more and more hectic, you might find yourself obsessively counting “bites” (the game’s version of calories) while relying on energy drinks to avoid hunger-fuelled crashes. Quirky animation and wacky mini-games keep the tone light, but serious questions about eating disorders, bullying and parental pressure dwell just below the surface.

Eating habits, chores and the tricky beast of self-esteem – can you handle them all?

Quick tip: Pick an outfit that matches the activities you want to tackle that day. The Eggbo shirt gives a mood boost that can offset joy-sapping tasks such as studying, while cute pink overalls elevate your energy level – great for when you need to stay up late to get more done.

Meet the creator: Jenny Jiao Hsia drew from her own adolescent relationship with food and self-image when developing Consume Me. Co-directed by fellow NYU Game Centre alum AP Thomson, the game won the grand prize at the 2025 Independent Games Festival.
