Storytelling has long been key to keeping Indigenous culture alive. And today, there are more ways than ever to share perspectives, ideas and histories. In Create to Learn, Indigenous creative pros pass on teachings in everything from game design to songwriting through simple instructional videos that make it easy to try for yourself.
What we love: There’s a vast variety of creative pursuits to explore among the hundreds of skill-sharing videos in the app. You can learn to design your own website, edit videos, or create digital illustrations. And alongside more modern crafts, you’ll find traditional cultural teachings, so you can learn about star charts, make bannock or bead your own earrings.

Quick tip: Don’t have time to watch a full course now? Download it and it will be saved under My Courses, so you can watch it later, even if you’re offline.
Meet the creator: TakingITGlobal first launched Create to Learn as a series of in-person training summits in 2018 to provide an opportunity for First Nations, Inuit and Métis youth to learn from Indigenous creative professionals in order to expand their own skills and capacity for storytelling.
According to Michael Furdyk, co-founder and director of innovation at TakingITGlobal, “Creative expression offers a very healthy outlet for ideas, emotions and exploration of past, current and future realities and possibilities. By expanding the toolboxes of youth to cultivate their creative skills on different projects, they are able to foster a greater sense of wellbeing – and what they produce can also be a source of inspiration for others.”
