You can tell this app loves podcasts. Everything here is the result of a lot of podcast listening, and the outcome is an app that does everything you want to do, without the unnecessary features or fuss.

I’m along-time user of podcast software and look closely at features on a regular basis. And I have used Overcast almost exclusively since at least 2014. I have been able to access any podcast that I have wanted to listen to, except for those limited to walled gardens. The flexibility of using multiple playlists, lots of options on how many episodes to hold of each podcast, and playback features that speed my listening such as suppressing silence and high speed playback. No other app I have found has the strong combination of features. The one feature I want to be added? Marking short segments for notes, and useful transcriptions. If I could combine Snipd with Overcast all my needs would be met!

Been best in class for years, and I’ve been a paying customer for yearsRecent redesign improved performance, reliability and UX modernity. Looks good. Feels faster.Requests;- chapter note icon would be great to make bigger, so I can see it under my fat fingers. Would prefer it on right side per previous muscle memory of old design- ability to delete a podcast while playing (current flow to delete from the now playing screen is hard to figure out. I rarely listen to the end of some podcasts which bundle in ads at the end)- clearer ability to see all of a show’s episodes from the now playing screen. Current redesign I can’t figure that outOverall this remains the best and definitive podcast app, across any OS. That one person makes it is all the more remarcoable. Highly recommended despite minor nitpicks above-

Overcast is a pretty unremarkable app these days. It also gets quite buggy - search intermittently breaks. Search doesn’t always work, and is useless for uploads. Features like ‘smart’ playlists are actually very basic and not particularly smart. Not sure what Stars are for? You can’t add them to a playlist (which would actually make smart playlists useful), and the only way to see them is to look through every individual podcast. People like trimming silence, but that is available elsewhere.. (side note that silence is not the uniformly useless object people think it is, there is plenty of meaning and context that gets overlooked by trimming pauses) Side loading audio is a great feature, but also available elsewhere. The sharing features are admittedly great, especially clipping audio. The privacy information is also good. Siri Shortcuts integration is table stakes now, there’s nothing mind blowing here. Have been a paid user since the beginning. would love to see some innovative features introduced for organising podcasts and episodes. One place to start would be to make smart playlists actually smart,
- Transcripts! (Many more transcript features coming in the future, too. Gotta start somewhere, though!)
- Fixed bugs that could cause background termination
- Lots of smaller bug fixes
