You’re just an adorable chicken trying to get to the flag, using some random objects as building blocks – or stumbling blocks – to create a path. If your friend the horse just so happens to tumble into a spinning saw while trying to avoid a pop from a punching glove – all the better! Because in Ultimate Chicken Horse, creating obstacle-filled platform levels alongside friends and then surviving your own precarious courses isn’t just about accomplishing death-defying feats to score points – it’s about enjoying the slapstick hilarity along the way.
What we love: Foiling our friends’ plans when we place unexpected traps that undermine their well-laid path. You alternate turns placing objects in your (un)co-operatively built level, and it’s a delicate balance trying to line up obstacles that will off your opponents but still allow you to squeak through unscathed.
Quick tip: Though competing against others locally or online (on mobile, PC or console) is bound to bring the most laughs, you can hone your skills and get inspiration for new setups when you play solo, tackling levels that have been created by other players.
Meet the creator: Ultimate Chicken Horse was created in 2016 by Montreal developer Clever Endeavour, and brought to iOS by Saskatchewan-based Noodlecake. Clever Endeavour CEO Richard Atlas says the game’s community of players have helped it take on a life of its own. “Our job is to make good tools, not necessarily to figure out all of the ways to use those tools,” he says. Today, many of the player-created levels are way too deadly for even the game’s creators to beat.
