What is Offload?
This app has been designed to help healthcare professionals to prevent and care for skin problems caused by pressure (pressure ulcers). Offload is an interactive tool to provide support to empower people to maintain patient well-being in relation to pressure ulcers. The app contains a mini-test to provide guidance on risk. Illustrations and videos are used to provide specialist advice to help convey key information to prevent and manage pressure ulcers. The guide also signposts to relevant Swansea Bay University Health Board documentation.
How to use Offload?
Use this interactive guide to focus on topics appropriate to you and our patient.
The interactive guide covers some of the basics about pressure damage, who is at risk, how to recognise different types of pressure ulcers, and what to consider about body position (posture) and equipment.
Interactive elements include the 'Am I at risk' mini-test and grading flowchart. If your patient has an existing pressure ulcer there is a quick guide to help you understand what you should expect and ways to help it heal.
The app has been written to be read by a patient, carer or family member so that the app can become a helpful education tool for wide range of people. The digital leaflets and videos can be helpful to show patients to support the advice you are providing as a healthcare professional. The images can also be used to demonstrate the importance of posture and equipment choices to enhance patient engagement.
The app may also be used in training sessions for healthcare professionals.
