The purpose of these APPs is to reinforce key aspects of risk communication. The APPs include brief discussions and role play, and provide a refresher for those who have attended the Risk Communication training sponsored by the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center. These workshops provide risk communication strategies and hands-on practical skills for those communications that impact your mission. These have become critical in the age of social media and the 24 hour news cycle. More and more information is being disseminated to a wider audience, at a quicker pace. Some of this information is accurate, some is not, so knowing how to respond is critical to accomplishing your organization’s mission. This includes knowing how to respond when communicating with the media, the public, the entire military community and military family members. What we say and how we say it can have a profound impact on people's perceptions and opinions, and can result in negative impacts if we don't choose our words carefully.
