DATING 101

How to get more matches

Make your dating profile stand out with Omi.

Ever wondered “Why is my profile not getting hits?”, “How do I get more matches?”, or “What would make me stand out from the dating crowd?”

In the world of online dating, potential connections hinge on fleeting first impressions. Want to know how you can show “the one” who you are with just a few photos and a short bio? Here are some profile-optimising tips we got from speaking to the developer of Omi:

Is one picture enough, or is more always merrier?

Omi: The number of pictures doesn’t really influence the visibility of your profile, although we do suggest giving an all-round showcase of yourself using a few photos that feature different backgrounds and contexts.

Any tips on what photos to include and which ones to show first? And do I need to update them regularly?

Omi: Try to pick a clear portrait for the first photo on your profile. If you’re using multiple photos, then it’s best to prioritise ones that reflect your lifestyle and interests. Do you live for travelling? Or is your dream date a dinner at the hottest new restaurant? Make sure your photos say just that.

We also encourage users to keep their photos and profiles up to date instead of reusing old photos from years past. Quick tip: each profile update will have to be reviewed, so you might want to make all your edits in one go.

Do I have to fill in every section on the profile page? What’s something that I definitely shouldn’t skip?

Omi: The more you share about yourself, the more likely it is you’ll find a match and get to know them on a deeper level. We recommend keeping profiles as complete as possible, especially in the About Me section, where you can really let your personality shine.

A lot of people struggle to write their bio. Any tips around that?

Omi: Including an interesting tidbit or a conversation starter in the About Me section usually encourages a response. You can also help potential matches get a feel for the real you by giving them glimpses into your life, your personality and what you look for in friendships and relationships.

Can you give some examples?

Omi: Consider starting your bio with something like “My latest guilty pleasure has been…”, “I’d like to meet someone who’s…”, “Let me know if you’ve seen…”, or “Anyone up for… this weekend?”

Add some fun hashtags to show your humorous side, such as #singlelovemaster, #daydreameroflove or #askmeourkidsname. Data also suggests that emojis will prompt users to spend more time on your profile and result in more matches.
