Think you’re good at Tetris, really? Well then it’s time to put your skills to the test.
Sure, this classic puzzle game has been around longer than many of us have been alive, but has that lifetime of play made you a champion of the blocks?
For almost 11 intense minutes we spun, shifted and dropped blocks to set a high-score, and now it’s down to you to try beat it.
The mark you have to beat? You’ll need to top 116,498 points in a single game if you’re to take our crown.
To keep things even you’ll need to beat our score during a round of Traditional Tetris accessed through the Solo Play game mode. Struggling to surpass us? These handy tips might help you out.
Watch what’s coming
Focusing on the block that’s on its way down will only get you so far. In the upper right of the game board you can see what the next three blocks to appear will be. Keeping an eye on this can help you know where to position that square block in order to create the perfect space for the upcoming L-shaped game piece.
Score a Tetris
More than the name of the game, you can achieve a Tetris by clearing four rows of blocks simultaneously. To do this you’ll need to fill a 9x4 area of the game grid, leaving a single column empty. This needs to be filled with the I-shaped block dropped in vertically. You’ll score eight times what you would for clearing a single line.
Hold your blocks
See that space in the upper left of the game board that says “Hold”? Well, that’s not just for show. Tapping this will put the currently descending block to the side for future use. If you’ve already got one in there this will now come into play. While it’s tempting to use this to remove difficult blocks, try reserve it for those Tetris-scoring blocks and watch your score increase.
