What we love: The joy of exploration. Each sprawling area has tons of secrets to discover, such as dozens of special hats that grant you cool abilities. (Be sure to put on a mining helmet if you’re poking around underground.) And you never quite know what’s coming. Giant monsters about? Hop into a Mecha Shrew for some light-hearted combat!

Quick tip: Stumped by the sealed cave entrance with the three wise monkey statues? Think about what each monkey is covering up – two eyes, two ears, one mouth – and compare it to the banana markings on the boulders. Ook ook, you got it!

Meet the creator: South Korean indie developers Sinkhole Studio and Moonlab Studio teamed up to bring Ogu and the Secret Forest to life. The studios’ founders – Sinkhole’s Joongkyu Kwon and Moonlab’s Jongbeum Moon – have been friends since high school; they wanted to build a game that tapped into the sense of adventure they felt as kids.
