Need a break? Let’s face it, we all require respite from serious study, work or to break the cycle of doomscrolling. Sometimes an easy-peasy game is the perfect escape – a little bit of luck, a modicum of skill but plenty of undemanding fun.
Domino Dreams and its sister game Dice Dreams are ideal for a satisfying time-out, where you join the little orange “Peon” characters in restoring King Richard’s kingdom. Here’s everything you need to know.
Domino Dreams
This straightforward take on dominoes requires you to match tiles together to clear the board in each level and bank the coin reward. When there’s no match available, you can flip a spare domino in the hope it will be the tile to solve the next step. It pays to plan ahead and consider your next few moves, as turning over a new tile will kill your streak bonus and use up your domino stack.
As you progress the difficulty level will increase, but we’re talking a tickle of the frontal cortex here, rather than a full-on brain strain. Don’t worry about messing up, either. The undo button will allow you to correct mistakes while boosters such as the golden wild card tiles give you a reset, allowing any domino to be placed next. All this can be done with a languid tap of the finger, with one eye on the telly.
Particularly pleasing is the cute Kingdom constructions that come with the rewards you acquire by completing levels. You’ll start by building a carriage at the Royal Beginning and explore multiple chapters, adding camp and colourful shops, taverns, statues, scarecrows and much more.
Dice Dreams
With a roll of the dice, you can build, raid and destroy in Dice Dreams. Sounds like a lot, right? In reality this game will give you plenty of satisfaction without being taxing. In fact, you can almost let the game play itself by pressing and holding the button for the auto-roll function. Then sit back and watch as you amass coins, with which you can construct your kingdom.
When you hit a triple question mark or a triple angry Peon roll of the dice, that’s when the real fun begins. With three question marks you’ll pick up a Mystery Card, which might allow you to steal from another player or raid their kingdom. With a triple Peon roll, you’ll be able to attack – that means you’ll slingshot a Peon towards another player’s constructions, destroying them and running away with their coins. Unless of course they have a shield, in which case you’ll be blocked.
This function is best enjoyed with friends and family. Join up with them through the game and soon you’ll find that a few days away from the game will leave your Kingdom in pieces. You’ll have to roll the dice again to get revenge.
