Revisit the most memorable lines from your books with the new flashcard mode for quotes. A great way to reflect, memorize, or simply enjoy the words that stuck with you.
- Sort Books by Author
Looking for a specific author in your library? You can now sort your books by author to make navigation quicker and more intuitive.

Dear Bookopedians,

- Book Sessions Figures
Track the time you spend reading each book with the new sessions figures feature. Monitor your engagement and reading habits more precisely.
- New Journal Section
Previous version (6.0.0) introduced reading sessions on the Home tab. With this update, a dedicated "Journal" section is now available within each book. Automatically added after the "References" section, the Journal lets you capture your thoughts and reflections in a focused space. You can adjust its position among the other sections from the app's Settings > Book Sections > Order Book Sections.
- Flexible Book Section Placement
The book section selector, formerly limited to a horizontal list at the top or bottom of the screen, can now also be displayed as a floating button. You may place this button anywhere on the screen for greater convenience. Go to Settings > Book Sections > Placement to play around with the new option.
- New "European" Themes
Three new themes inspired by European aesthetics are available for your book sections. These themes complement the new section placement options and offer fresh visual styles.
- Vocabulary Language Filter
Filter vocabulary entries by language, allowing you to focus on specific word sets more efficiently.
- Bug Fixes and Improvements
We have resolved issues with fetching definitions in French, Spanish, and Russian, fixed a visual glitch during definition retrieval, and improved the display of book publication dates.
As always, your feedback is invaluable. Should you encounter any issues or have suggestions, please contact us via Settings > Contact Support.
Thank you for supporting Bookopedia.

6.0.0 30/03/2025
Dear Bookopedians,
This major update brings significant new features designed to complete your reading and note-taking experience. Here’s what’s new:
- Reading Journal & Sessions
You can now create reading sessions to track your reading habits. Sessions can be added automatically when updating a book’s current page or manually at any time. This feature helps you monitor your progress over time.
Good news for those who might find it too "stressful", it's completely optional.
- Calendar View
Visualize your reading milestones with the new Calendar feature. It allows you to track when you start, finish, or purchase books. You can also export and share your calendar as an image.
- Enhanced Book Adding Experience
The process of adding books—whether through barcode scanning or online search—has been refined for a more intuitive and streamlined experience.
And as usual, with this major release, you can expect several fixes (including the annoying crash upon searching for an unrecognized ISBN).
Happy reading!
5.0.0 26/02/2025
Dear Bookopedians,
Similar to the previous major update, this one introduces significant new features to enhance your experience. So let's dig into it, shall we?
- eBooks With Percentage Tracking
Bookopedia now fully supports eBooks with percentage-based progress tracking. This feature extends to paginated content such as quotes, characters, and stories. You can customize the default tracking behavior in the settings.
- Enhanced Cover Handling
When adding a book via ISBN, Bookopedia will now automatically retrieve the best quality cover available. New settings allow you to choose between optimized quality for reduced storage use or high quality for better visuals.
- Import from Book Tracker (by Simone Montalto)
Support for importing CSV files from Book Tracker by Simone Montalto has been added, bringing the total number of supported third-party apps to five. Transfer your library seamlessly without starting from scratch.
- Quick Progress Updates
Updating your reading progress is now faster than ever. Use a long press or swipe on the main list to make quick changes.
- Characters in Preface
Building on the recently introduced preface support, you can now associate characters with prefaces in addition to quotes and vocabulary.
- Improved Series Management
Series functionality has been upgraded with a new "Sort by Volume" option, making it easier to organize your collections.
- Additional Improvements
Finally, a major update wouldn't be complete without various minor improvements and bug fixes: displaying a progress bar when importing books, clearer wordings...
Hoping these updates improve your reading and note-taking experience.
Happy reading!
4.0.0 30/01/2025
Dear book lovers,
Books are great, and book apps should be too! This update is our biggest yet, packed with fresh and novel features to elevate your reading experience. So let's have a closer look, shall we?
- Book References
What are references? Well, it is that last section located after a book's "Vocabulary" and "Locations". Its existence was a mystery for most, so a revamp was needed, and a revamp it got!
References are now divided into two types: Local and Web.
A local reference helps you save something noteworthy while reading. For example, in Dracula (Bram Stokers), you might come across a dish called "impletata". That's a reference.
The web type goes further. Let's say you are reading Jane Eyre (Charlotte Brontë) and during a web search, you found a map covering the several places of the book. Simply enter the link and Bookopedia will save a copy for you.
- Series
Series support has arrived! You can finally attach books to their series. Quite useful when it comes to A Song of Ice and Fire, Les Rougon-Macquart or even your endless manga collection.
- Preface
Quite the novelty... In some cases, prefaces are paged using roman numerals (fancy but not always convenient). In other cases, the novel pagination doesn't take the preface pagination into account. So trying to track a quote from a preface can be a challenge. Happy to announce that this is now a thing of the past.
- Original Author of Quotes
Not all the quotes of a book come from the author. Sometimes, they will borrow quotes from their contemporaries. A new field "Original Author" will allow you to give credit where it is due.
- Purchase Note
Talking about new fields, here is another one. Upon tracking a book purchase, you can now enter an optional note. Useful if you wish to remember who gifted your last Christmas book.
And finally, you can expect the traditional bug fixes and improvements (such as better results for Japanese ISBN).
Do not hesitate to share your feedback :)
Happy reading!
3.0.0 19/01/2025

- New font for quotes: Montserrat.
- Markdown support makes its way into vocabulary and quotes. Configure it from the Settings.
- When adding a book, the app will let you know if a better cover can be found online.
Your usual improvements of the UX and batch of fixes are also included in this update.
Happy reading!

1.5.1 17/12/2024
Greetings readers,
Last update (v1.4.0) introduced an unpleasant bug to new users who onboarded with second last update (v1.3.1). My deepest apologies.
This new update should bring a fix to that!
Also, it brings a requested feature: Retrieving missing covers! Especially useful for those who imported a book list from Goodreads and such. You can find this feature on the Settings screen in the "Edit" section.
Happy reading!
1.5.0 14/12/2024
Dear Bookopedians,
Or should it be Bookopediors? Or maybe Bookopediants? How about Bookopedists? Harper Lee would probably say "I think there is only one kind of folks. Book readers." or something similar.
Without further ado, let us present the newest version of Bookopedia.
New Colorful Backgrounds
The different sections (notes, characters, quotes...) of a book have a colorful background based on the selected section style.
To customize it, go to the Settings > Book Sections Style > "Apply colors to background" and select your theme.
New Icons
Do you enjoy Bookopedia icons? Here are more icons: a new color variant and three new alternative icons, including famous painting "Madame de Pompadour" holding a book.
New Tip Jar
With this release, Bookopedia is slowly getting out of early access. This means that the Tip Jar is finally available. If you wish to support the development of Bookopedia, you may find the Tip Jar on the Settings screen. Spreading the word and writing a review are also other ways to support the development of the app. Every bit of help matters, your help matters! Thank you for your patronage.

1.4.0 14/12/2024
Dear Book Readers,
Here is a small release which should bring comfort to iOS 18 users as it fixes another set of "nasty, dirt, wet *bugs* filled with the end of worms and an oozy smell". (Yes, this is a Hobbit quote.)
New Filters
The "Favorite" filter is no longer exclusive to the Books list. The Quotes list and the Vocabulary list can now use the filter.
New Settings
You can select the Quotes & Vocabulary filters you wish to keep and hide the others. This setting was already available for the Books filters.
Our sincere apologies to iOS 18 users and thank you for your patience.
Happy reading!
1.3.1 02/12/2024
Greeting Book Enthusiasts,
We're excited to share our latest update, which introduces several meaningful improvements to enhance your reading tracking experience.
Finding Books by ISBN
The ISBN search functionality has been significantly upgraded. The book database has been expanded, increasing the likelihood of finding your desired book. In fact, if you still encounter issues finding your book by ISBN, please send us a message!
Introducing Widgets
This version is a first step into widgets. You can now add the "Bookopedia Quotes" widget that will hourly display a random quote. Just like the main app, the widget is highly customizable.
(Note: The iOS system limits how many times a widget can be updated, so you might need to wait an hour or so to see your newly selected theme.)
Bug Fixes and Improvements
- A nasty iOS 18 bug with the "Book" screen has finally been eliminated.
- A bug on the "Track Book Purchase" screen with the currency has been fixed.
- Several tiny improvements to the user experience were implemented.
You are more than welcome to send an email (directly from the app's Settings) if you have any feedback to share :)
Happy reading!
1.3.0 30/11/2024
Greeting book lovers,
This update brings a major feature to Bookopedia: Data Import & Export!
You can finally export your data as csv files: Books, quotes and everything you have ever written. You can also import it back into Bookopedia.
Can you guess what this means? You now have the possibility to create your own Bookopedia backups!
Another great thing is that you don't have to start Bookopedia from scratch. You can simply import your csv files which should contain a list of either books or quotes.
Last but not least... Bookopedia will recognize some third-party csv files such as : TheStoryGraph, BookBuddy, Goodreads and Calibre.
Do you maybe have a csv file from another third-party? Send an email with your file and expect the next Bookopedia update to cover your needs ;)
