LIFE HACK

Take control of your smart home

Set the scene – and more – with these apps.

The Home app is your control center for smart home gear, but by adding other apps to your arsenal you can do even more: toggle scenes faster, manage all your devices in one place, get multi-camera monitoring and work with other ecosystems.

Make your smart devices feel right at (ahem) home on your Mac with these options.

Control everything from the menu bar or keyboard

HomeControl Menu for HomeKit
This systemwide menu lets you control all your HomeKit scenes and devices, configure keyboard shortcuts, see device status and sensor data such as temperature and humidity, and adjust bulb brightness, colour and more.

Scenecuts
For a simpler approach, this menu bar utility lets you trigger HomeKit scenes from the menu and set keyboard shortcuts for quick access.

Homie
Control HomeKit devices from the menu bar and set automation triggers – such as when your Mac wakes up or goes to sleep or when you connect an external display.

HomeBot for Shortcuts
Enable advanced shortcuts support for HomeKit devices, allowing you to automate more types of devices and actions and use more types of data (including sensor measurements) as triggers.

Manage your HomeKit system

Controller for HomeKit
Manage rooms and create scenes and automations, then create workflows for complex sequences. Use smart folders to organise the most complex setups, view logs of Home activity and make backups of your Home data – useful if you ever want to restore a deleted automation (or an entire Home configuration).

HomePass for HomeKit
Store all your HomeKit device codes so you always have a backup – and export a PDF of those codes in case you ever need to set up your devices again.

Connect to video cameras

HomeCam for HomeKit
View your HomeKit-compatible cameras, along with any sensor data – such as temperature, humidity and air quality – from devices in those rooms. View live cameras all at once or one at a time.

HomeHelper
Connect your Mac-based SecuritySpy CCTV system to HomeKit so you can view your cameras in the Home app – or in HomeCam!

Interact with other ecosystems

Home Assistant
Connect your Home Assistant–managed devices to HomeKit so you can control everything in one place – and create automations that include those devices.

HomeAtmo: The Netatmo client
View NetAtmo weather station and AirCare sensor readings – and graphs of historical measurements – right from the menu bar.

Harmony Bridge
Connect your Logitech Harmony Hub to the Home app so you can manage your AV activities with your Mac and Siri – and use your iPhone as a remote control for your entertainment system.
