Foot Joust

Endless running in the Middle Ages.

What do you get when you throw a medieval knight into an endless runner with a charming pixel-art aesthetic? That’s right, it’s Foot Joust—a game about picking the right move to overcome the right obstacle at the right moment as your fearless knight charges onward.

What we love: Every opponent has a weakness—you just need to spot it and react before your knight reaches them. For example, an enemy’s raised sword can be countered with a downward swipe, while a jumping frog will need to be hit in the air with a rightward swipe. Tap to jump over obstacles or swipe left to whip out your shield.

Tackle rival knights, dragons, and more on your frantic journey forward. Charge!

Quick tip: If reading your enemies’ stances sounds complicated, there’s a handy hint system to teach you which attack or move works on which style of enemy. But once you’ve built up some confidence, turning those hints off delivers a nice boost to your score.

Meet the creator: Foot Joust is the work of New Zealand–based Sean Gilbert, who built the game in his spare time over the course of five years. Gilbert spent many late nights crafting the game’s detailed pixel-art graphics, and describes the creation process as feeling like “a roller coaster and a marathon wrapped into one.”
