By far the best text editor and development tool on iOS. This is a truly professional tool that has improved at a steady pace over the years. It really should cost more than it does — we need to support these kinds of apps because iOS (especially iPadOS) desperately needs them.

Textastic was one the first apps I bought in 2020 for my shiny new iPad and it was a first install for M5 iPadPro. It is my go to editor for all things text.
Builtin SFTP is a godsend

Initially I preferred another editor because I felt Textastic’s big title bar was a downside. However, after putting these editors into practice I’ve come to realize how irritating MacOS’s “Safe Save” is and how it changes my file permissions to 600, regardless what workarounds I’ve tried. Textastic’s SFTP is really intuitive and unintrusive and was very easy to start using in my workflow. This way I can keep using the iPad as a “thin client” for my Mac. It’s really great. The built-in terminal is a nice touch for quick commands but I’ve found that it’s not good for long running commands since it seems like it can time out and you can lose your session (I guess you could tmux). But I use another product I prefer for that anyway.
Excellent code editor for iPad

The only feature I’d really like to see added is a paste icon button, probably in the top ribbon with the undo/redo icon buttons. Right now to paste I need to tap precisely where I want to paste… twice… in order to get the context ribbon to pop up with paste in it. This can be quite finicky to get right, and a button at the top would neatly solve that.Otherwise, this app is great and has many features. Would be nice to have better integration with git or the app Working Copy, but I have a workflow for that which isn’t too bad.
Developer Response
Thanks a lot! I’m currently working on an update that will improve the behavior of the edit menu (copy/paste) and make it appear more reliably when tapping the insertion point.I appreciate your support and feedback!
