OpenMaps turns your iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac into a complete outdoor and marine navigation kit, powered by free, community-sourced OpenStreetMap data.
OUTDOOR & MARINE IN ONE APP
Switch between an Outdoor profile (hiking, trekking, mountain biking, trail running) and a Marine profile with OpenSeaMap nautical overlays: buoys, lighthouses, depths and harbours. One app for the trail and the water.
WORKS WHERE THERE'S NO SIGNAL
Topographic tiles are cached on device and can be pre-downloaded, so your map keeps working deep in the backcountry or offshore where there's no connection.

The openstreetmaps are displayed quite well. The search function is also quite good. But when you need to open the app it opens with a loud advertising that lasts for 5 seconds and you have no control on the volume. It does not provide any directions as well. There are no sunrise, subset or weather information as mentioned in the app description. I removed this app.
Developer Response
You listed three things, and all three were fair — the loud five-second ad on launch, the missing directions, and features described on the listing that weren't in the app. That last one was the worst of them. All three are now real: turn-by-turn directions with haptic guidance and route drawing with live distance and elevation; sunrise/sunset, compass and altimeter tools; live weather and wind for your location. And no ad on the first launches, with Pro removing them entirely.— Andrea, OpenMaps
Bare minimum for a map app
BenH-777
It is the bare minimum for a map app and not worth the ads. Upon opening the app you are presented with 4 buttons and an ad. The buttons just have icons and no description. The 1st button doesn’t seem to do anything. The 2nd button opens a list of osm maps with no way of adding your own. 3rd brings the view to your location. And the 4th is a download for a completely different app. The ad sits under the buttons and I had a popup ad when I tapped the 1st button (maybe that’s all it did). That’s all this app can do.
Developer Response
This was a fair and precise review — four unlabelled buttons, an ad and not much else was about right. The app has been rebuilt since. The buttons now carry labels, and behind them are offline region downloads, route drawing with live distance and elevation, turn-by-turn directions, GPX and Garmin FIT import/export, POI search across 19 categories, and compass, altimeter and sun tools. OpenMaps Pro removes every ad, and the free version no longer shows anything on the first launches.— Andrea, OpenMaps
Too many ads!
Nope-MYOB
Deleted the app within minutes of installing.
Developer Response
Deleting it within minutes was a reasonable reaction to what that version did.The ad behaviour is gone: nothing at all on the first launches, no full-screen interruptions while you use the map, and OpenMaps Pro removes every ad across iPhone, Apple Watch and Mac. The app behind it has been rebuilt too — 6 topographic and nautical map styles, offline region downloads, route drawing, GPX and Garmin FIT support.— Andrea, OpenMaps
Doesn't work?!
Shinel907
Doesn't open. Screen goes black and app shuts down when I try to open it. I have latest update of iOS 7.
Developer Response
You were right — black screen and immediate shutdown, that was a real crash on that version of iOS.The honest position today: the app has been rebuilt from scratch and now requires iOS 18, so it won't run on that device at all. On current hardware it's a very different app — topographic and nautical maps with contour lines, offline region downloads, route drawing, POI search, compass and altimeter.— Andrea, OpenMaps
• OpenMaps is now on the Mac too — one Pro subscription covers iPhone, iPad and Mac
• Fixed a crash when enabling Health access
• Improved language support and stability
