“Coding” may sound a bit dry and daunting to some newcomers, but those are the last things that come to mind while using Hopscotch. The app lets you have as much fun making games as playing them, and with its colourful, friendly interface and stacks of help and tutorials, kids (and grown-ups!) can build all kinds of apps—while learning the fundamentals of programming. I loved this game so as soon as I got a new device, I had to download Hopscotch. The only problem is that you have to get that in-app purchase, so now I can’t get it. Please make this game completely free or at least add an option that allows you choose whether or not you want to pay. If you do this I’ll definitely start playing but for now, I’ll just be waiting for you to do thisPs: I doubt that you’ll even read thisBut anyway, I do realise that you need the money but I can’t even continue because I just want it to be free. I’m sure that there are other people who agree with me too. I’ve tried to find other games but Hopscotch is my absolute favourite without a doubt. I remember that I used to come home wanting to make a new game straight away. So basically, in my opinion, everything is perfect about this game except for having to pay to start playing. Why do I have to pay?!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭Edit: if you want people to pay, maybe consider allowing them to play without paying being a must, but instead paying being a strong want. So basically, I was thinking that you could allow people to play without having to pay, but you could make it so that people want to pay for the better things. Please, at least consider what I have written, since I’ve also put a lot of time into writing this. I would give it a 5 star but I gave it 4 because of this weird glitch. Every time I make a project, and add a 2 or more characters and press the play button it seems fine but if I press the play button again on the same project the project has no characters but a white background. So I have to exit the project and enter the same project again. But if I press the play button twice again it happens again😫 Pls fix this glitch/bug. If you fix it I’ll give the game 5 stars.

I am deeply concerned that children are using this app to communicate with each other in what is basically a social media/messaging capacity. I keep reading how safe this app is for children and how it is monitored and yet my 11 year old has been able to communicate with god knows who, sharing personal information. On top of that she has been encouraged about things regarding sexuality, gender and self harm. I am horrified at what she has been exposed to by an app that is considered so safe. I suggest you seriously reassess the ability for children (if some of them are even children) to essentially just chat with each other through remixing projects. I have removed this app from my children’s devices and informed their school (who told me to download it in the first place) that this is a serious issue and that they should remove it from their technology program. I will also be telling every parent I know about the dangers this app poses.

First off, I am so sorry that your 11yo had a negative experience. Safety is something we take very seriously here, and having teachers and parents as founders means we care deeply about the content that is expressed in the app. The primary way kids use Hopscotch is as it was intended: as a tool for coding their own games, which they then sometimes publish into the community. Every piece of text is filtered, and every image used within a game is approved by a human. There is no commenting or messaging ability in the app, although publishers do get notifications if someone remixes their project. We also have checks on general game themes and a rigorous flagging system for games that fail the moderation checks. Users who repeatedly fail moderation checks are removed from the system. However, a minority of users determined to get around these sometimes find new ways to do so, and it seems like your daughter became involved. We are always trying to improve our system and would appreciate learning more details and specifics about the offensive projects you saw. Please reach out to me directly at jocelyn@gethopscotch.com with more information about your daughter's account. We would value the opportunity to learn more about what happened here.
