With iOS 14 comes the ability to add widgets directly to your Home Screen. And the go-to app for tailoring them to suit your style is the hugely popular Widgetsmith. Here are three easy tweaks to start.

• On the Widgets tab, tap Add Small Widget, Add Medium Widget or Add Large Widget.
• In the Photo section, tap either Photo (to show one pic) or Photos in Album (to cycle among a bunch).
• Tap Selected Photo at the bottom of the screen, then tap Choose Photo.
• Pick your best family/cat/vacation/brunch pic.
• Pinch to zoom; swipe to adjust the crop. Tap Photo Filter to adjust the aesthetic.
• On the upper left, tap Back, then Tap to Rename. Tap Save.

• On the Widgets tab, tap Add Small Widget, Add Medium Widget or Add Large Widget.
• Scroll down to the Calendar section and select Upcoming Events or Upcoming Wide.
• Tap Aesthetic/Theme and pick a background and font style.
• Tap Calendars to tailor the events that’ll appear in the widget.
• On the upper left, tap Back, then Tap to Rename. Tap Save.

• On the Widgets tab, tap Add Small Widget, Add Medium Widget or Add Large Widget.
• You’ve got a few options here. The Tides section has widgets displaying the high- and low-tide times. Check the Astronomy section for moon phase, sun path and star field widgets.
• Tap Location to tailor the data to you.
• On the upper left, tap the Back, then Tap to Rename. Tap Save.

Now that you’ve created a custom widget, the next step is to add it to your Home Screen. Here’s how:

• Touch and hold anywhere on the Home Screen until your apps start to jiggle.
• Tap the plus sign at the top of the screen. If you’re on your iPad and the plus sign isn’t visible, swipe right over the screen. Then tap the plus sign.
• Scroll down and select the Widgetsmith icon.
• Swipe to the size of the widget you just created, then tap Add Widget.
• Tap anywhere outside of the window twice to return to your Home Screen.
• Touch and hold the widget you just added, then tap Edit Widget. Select the name of the widget you just created.
• Tap anywhere outside of the window twice to return to your Home Screen.
